High-End Landscaping in San Mateo, CA
Del Conte’s M&H Landscape Construction was founded in 1972 and specializes in high-end residential landscape design and construction. We are not a mow-and-blow service. Our team plans and builds complete outdoor environments for San Mateo homeowners: landscape design, construction, outdoor living, hardscape, irrigation, drainage and lighting, all coordinated by one team.
Designing Landscapes for San Mateo Homes
Many San Mateo homes were built decades ago, which means aging irrigation, tired hardscape, cracked walkways and drainage that no longer keeps up with winter storms. A typical San Mateo project combines a fresh design with the infrastructure upgrades underneath it: new irrigation zones, drainage lines, low-voltage lighting and hardscape that is properly compacted and built to last.
In neighborhoods like Aragon, Baywood and San Mateo Park, homeowners often want a backyard that works as an extra living space: a patio for dining, a lawn or synthetic turf area for kids, a fire feature for cool evenings and planting that stays attractive year-round. On the hillside streets, retaining walls and terraces usually come first so that sloped yards become flat, usable areas.

Why San Mateo Homeowners Choose DCMH
- Since 1972: founded by Tom Del Conte, with leadership that has been with the company for decades.
- In-house crew: our own experienced craftsmen build your project, not a rotating cast of subcontractors.
- Designer oversight: the designer who plans your landscape sees it through construction to completion.
- Full service: design, construction, hardscape, outdoor living, irrigation, drainage, lighting and ongoing care from one team.
- Built to last: we focus on the parts you don’t see, like grading, compaction, drainage and wiring, so the parts you do see stay beautiful.
Whether you are planning a complete makeover of a San Mateo property, updating an older landscape, or adding an outdoor kitchen, fire feature or lighting to an existing yard, we start by understanding how you want to use the space. From there we build a plan that fits the architecture of your home, the conditions of your site and your budget, and we explain each phase before work begins.
How We Work
- Consultation: we walk the property with you, listen to your goals and assess slopes, drainage, sun and existing trees.
- Design: our designer develops a plan for layout, hardscape, planting, irrigation, drainage and lighting.
- Construction: our in-house crew builds the project, and your designer stays involved through completion.
- Ongoing care: our residential maintenance program keeps the landscape performing, with irrigation and lighting audits three times a year.
